A Legacy of Meticulous Restoration
During my twenties, I sought a suitable trade job and discovered a German-owned woodworking workshop. The proprietor, an elderly German gentleman with three generations of expertise in antique restoration and fine furniture craftsmanship, was seeking a young apprentice to whom he could impart his extensive knowledge and techniques—skills that have nearly disappeared from contemporary practice. The year was 1990, marking the beginning of my journey in this field.
He always told me there was only one way—‘the German way’—and with that mindset, I pushed myself to learn his family techniques for restoring and finishing fine furniture. After 35 years, I'm proud to say I've become a master finisher, and this legacy continues through my son, who also enjoys working with antiques. That’s how we founded FINISHING DETAIL, LLC, dedicated to providing top service to fellow antique lovers.
